George Weah jnr. closing in on Lone Stars

Midfielder George Weah jnr. who is on a list of 60 players released by national team coach James Salinsa Debbah, played for the US U-20 in 2004.

He last played for the reserve side of Paris St Germain and has also been on the books of Swiss clubs Baden and Wangen, as well as Bulgarian team Kaliakara Kavarna.

Debbah has included several young players contracted to European clubs, including Joel Alajarin, who plays for the Real Madrid reserve side, AtleticoBilbao's Inaki Williams, Ghassimu Sow, who plays for the Crystal Palace academy side and Dutch-based Seku Conneh.

Also included in the team is winger Sekou Oliseh, who is the adopted son of former Nigerian professional Churchill Oliseh. His uncles are former professionals Azubuike Oliseh and Egutu Oliseh, as well as Africa Cup of Nations winner Sunday Oliseh.

The national team coach has also invited 40 locally-based players to try out for the national side, but has indicated that it is not yet a final selection. “We hope to begin intensive practice next week” Debbah told Liberian media, adding: “The list is subject to modification in which there could be changes as necessary.”

The Lone Stars have been drawn into Group A of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and will be facing Togo, Tunisia and Djibouti en route to securing their third appearance at the showpiece event of African football.
